The North Wilkesboro Speedway is featured in a country music video being filmed for singer/songwriter Tim Dugger of Roanoke, Ala. Weekend Warriors Production, a Huntersville-based film company, spent much of Tuesday filming Dugger in scenes at the speedway for his song, "Sunday Drive," to be included on a still untitled CD scheduled for release at the end of this month.
Also featured in the video is NASCAR Camping World Series truck driver Austin Dillon, grandson of NASCAR race team owner Richard Childress, racing around the track. Weekend Warriors Production spokesman Andrea Lofton said the North Wilkesboro Speedway, where Dillon recently tested, was made available by Childress for the video shoot Tuesday. The tractor-trailer that hauls Dillon's truck was also at the speedway and was filmed Tuesday.
Brett Bortle of Weekend Warriors Production said about 30 local people participated in the filming as extras, mostly for crowd shots in a victory lane scene. Dugger's Dirt Road Band was filmed as it performed at the speedway.
Bortle said filming for the video will continue today at an outdoor barbecue in Lexington. Dugger's website (www.timdugger.com) described the 21-year-old as "the freshest young talent to come along in quite some time." Dugger has performed in Nashville, Tenn., at The Wildhorse Saloon, Tootsie's Orchid Lounge, and the Nashville Palace. He has opened for Gretchen Wilson, Doug Stone and Billy Joe Royal, among others. In a related matter, the world premier of "Red Dirt Rising," a movie about the roots of racing, is scheduled May 15 at the North Wilkesboro Speedway. Gates open at noon for numerous events.
The Buck Baker Driving School will offer people a chance to drive on the historic track. Cars featured in the movie and antique "moonshine cars" will be displayed. Members of the movie's cast and crew will be on hand to meet people and sign autographs.
That evening, North Wilkesboro Speedway will host its first race in the Legendary Flathead Ford Racing Series. After the race, Matt Dylan will perform a live concert. His song "Carolina Moonshine" is featured on the movie soundtrack. At dusk, the movie will be shown on the track.
Tickets can be purchased in advance at www.historicnws.com/tickets. The cost is $18.25 for adults ($15 plus online fee), $11.25 for children age 6 to 15 ($8 plus fee). Tickets include all the day's events except for the driving school.
Tickets at the gate will be $20 for adults and $8 for children 6 to 15. Children under 6 get in free.
